Warrenville, Ill., Nov. 1, 2018 – The Washington University in St. Louis cross country program swept Thursday's North Central College Red & White Meet at the St. James Farm.
Both the No. 2-ranked WashU team's posted perfect scores at the meet, finishing with the top-five individual times on both sides. The Bears' men actually posted the top-eight times and the women finished with the top-six times.
The WashU men were led by sophomore Joe Stover as he finished the three-mile course in 14:45.4, averaging a 4:55 mile pace. The women were led by freshman Michaela Jones, who finished the three-mile terrain in 17:48.3, averaging 5:56 per mile.
Stover finished nearly seven seconds ahead of runner-up and senior teammate Matt Jenkins (14:52.3). Following in third through eighth place were senior Kyle Cepeda (14:53.0), freshman Michael Ly (14:54.2), freshman Eli Ten Eyck (14:57.0), freshman Jacob Ridderhoff (15:00.3), senior Paul d'Ambrosio (15:02.0) and senior Zac Christensen (15:05.4).
The men finished with a perfect 15 points while Wheaton (Ill.) was second (69), Aurora third (83) and St. Mary-of-the-Woods fourth (85) in the four team race.
Jones was followed by freshman Sophia Young (17:50.5), junior Sahara Ensley (17:54.3), junior Katherine Penvose (17:56.4), junior Payton Fors (17:56.4) and sophomore Zarya deSouza (18:02.5). The Bears scored 15 points with top-five times that averaged 17:52 and they were followed by Wheaton (Ill.) (70), North Central (Ill.) (73), Carroll (114), St. Mary-of-the-Woods (132) and Moody Bible Institute (145).
