WashU Has Four Named UAA Athletes of the Week

St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 1, 2019 – Washington University in St. Louis had four student-athletes named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week for their respective sports, as announced by the Association Tuesday. 

Sophomore Barclay Dale and junior Matthew Grottkau of the men's swimming and diving team and freshmen Sandra Meszaros and Rosie Finglass of the women's swimming and diving team each earned the honor.

Barclay Dale – Men's Swimmer
Dale was a major factor in the Bears victory over Division I St. Louis University Friday at home. He won the 50 freestyle (21.44) and 100 backstroke (52.84) individually while also assisting the men's 200 medley relay to victory (1:34.24). 

Matthew Grottkau – Men's Diving
Grottkau posted scores of 213.5 in the one-meter and 193.85 in the three-meter dive as the lone male competitor in diving to open the 2019-20 season. 

Sandra Meszaros – Women's Swimmer
Meszaros had a strong start to her collegiate career during the opening meet of the 2019-20 season in a dual meet with St. Louis University. She posted winning times in the 200 freestyle (1:56.04) and the 100 butterfly (57.77). Meszaros was also the third leg in the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:48.58. 

Rosie Finglass – Women's Diving
Finglass earned a first-place finish in the one-meter dive in the season-opening meet with SLU. She captured first with a score of 206.15 to beat out three divers. Finglass also placed second in the three-meter dive with a score of 182.20.
