St. Louis, Mo., April 26, 2019 – The Washington University in St. Louis softball team suffered a 6-2 loss to Case Western Reserve University on Senior Day Friday in the first of four games with the Spartans this weekend in St. Louis.
Case Western Reserve improved to 20-13 and 7-8 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while WashU dropped to 15-15 and 4-8 in the conference. The Spartans moved into third place in the UAA standings with the win.
Prior to the game WashU honored its two seniors in Taylor Arends and Josi Elder. The duo has helped lead the Bears to a 91-55 record with a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances and the 2017 UAA Championship in four seasons.
Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, Hay tied the game with a RBI single up the middle to tie the game.
Case added two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh to make it 6-1. Arends delivered a two-out RBI single in the seventh to round out the scoring.
Freshman Madison Denton (8-8) took the loss despite allowing just four hits and two earned runs in four innings pitched.
WashU continues the four-game series with a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
