St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 5, 2018 – The Washington University in St. Louis women's golf team opened the season as the No. 8-ranked NCAA Division III program in the initial Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Top-25 rankings.
The Bears opened the fall season with a victory over NAIA's No. 5-ranked William Woods University in head coach Mary Swanson's first event leading WashU on Saturday. The Red & Green fired a season-opening 320 round while William Woods finished with 332 strokes.
WashU's captains are senior Hanna Jia and junior Emily Carnes who helped guide the Bears to an NCAA Division III Tournament berth. The Bears also return a two-time All-American in junior Samantha Haubenstock. She wasted little time in winning her first event of the year, firing a two-over par 74 at William Woods.
Chloe DiPetrillo is back for her senior campaign after earning All-Region honors. She posted top-10 finishes in the Bears first five tournaments in the fall of 2017. Senior Sabrina Ho also returns as the Bears added four freshmen: Julia Dai, Alyssa Kim, Rachel Rhee and Lydia Tsai.
The Bears travel to Memphis, Tenn. for the Rhodes Fall Classic this Saturday-Sunday. Be sure to stay up to date on all your Bears scores and awards by following @WashUBears on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
