WashU T&F Closes Strong at Billiken Invitational

St. Louis, Mo., April 7, 2018 – The Billiken Invitational wrapped up Saturday evening with the No. 4-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's team capturing first place over multiple Division I programs while the WashU men catapulted its way to third place out of 10 teams from NCAA Division I-III and NAIA level.

The WashU women led the 10 team field with 152.5 points pushing past host - Saint Louis University (129) on the second day with 10 top-3 finishes.

The Bears men scored 130.5 points to place third behind Saint Louis (148) and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (137.5). The men totaled 13 top-3 finishes.

Senior Annalise Wagner won the 800m, finishing the race in 2:12.49, which ranks fourth in Division III at the time of the races conclusion. Sophomore Sara Mesiano placed second (2:19.45).

Wagner was also a member of the 4x400m relay team which took second place. She anchored the team that consisted of freshman Sophie Grigaux, sophomore Nicky Althoff and Mesiano. The group finished in 3:59.93, and would rank in the top-10 of DIII if the same quartet had not posted a faster time last week at the WashU Invite.

Junior Heidi Nassos triple jump is tied for the 25th best mark in DIII, as she placed third overall at the invitational with a jump of 11.20m.

Also earning a first place finish for the women was freshman Josephine Simon. She placed first in the 400m hurdles with a winning time of 1:07.14. She was followed by sophomore Anna Cossio (1:10.29) and freshman Elle Hansen (1:10.86) for second and third. Cossio also placed sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.50m.

The WashU men posted the top three marks in 400m led by senior Michael Billington (50.60), junior Jason Singer (50.68) and junior Eddie Wintergalen (50.75).

Singer and Wintergalen were the opening half of the winning 4x400m relay team. They paired with freshmen Andrew Whitaker and John Harry Wagner for a completion of the four lap race in 3:23.01. Whitaker also placed first individually in the 400m hurdles (56.60).

Sophomore Brandon Hutchison and junior Jacob Gray also took home 10 points apiece for first place efforts in their respective events. Hutchison posted a winning height of 4.40m in the pole vault while Gray recorded the fastest attached 110m hurdles time, 15.43.
